Trini Chowmein Noodles

Hey guys! It’s been a minute since I have posted but I haven’t forgotten you all. Sometimes it’s just good to take a moment for yourself and recharge. I am happy that some of you all look forward to my posts and even message me for recipes. It’s what keeps me going so thank you for that motivation. It’s been a little while so let’s get right into it.

Chowmein noodles is definitely a popular local fave, it’s so easy and fast and it pairs well with any meat as a main dish or even a side dish. To see how I prepare this tasty dish, see below.

You will need:

  • 1 pack chowmein noodles
  • ½ cabbage
  • 1 christophene
  • 1 ½ carrots
  • 2 sweet peppers
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tbsp green seasoning
  • 3 pimentos
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Preparation:

Firstly, slice the cabbage, carrots, christophene, sweet peppers and onions and set aside. Next, finely chop or grate the pimentos and garlic and then set aside.

Method:

In a large skillet, bring about 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add in the noodles and lightly salt. Boil the noodles for no more than 4 minutes. It cooks really fast so please be mindful as we don’t want to over cook to make it too soft.

Drain the noodles and set aside. In a large wok, heat the 2 tbsp of oil of your choice ( I use coconut) and sautee the veges. Ensure the wok is covered to speed up the cooking process. After 7 minutes, add the noodles into the wok and continuously stir. Change the stove to low heat and add your sesame oil, soy sauce, ketchup, water and green seasoning.

Mix the all ingredients until everything is evenly distributed, then add salt and black pepper to taste.

Finished Meal!

& that’s it! It literally takes about 15 minutes to cook. For maximum enjoyment, pair with any stewed, baked or grilled meat.

Variations:

To add chicken, beef or shrimp, steam meat first then sautee into noodles.

Yummy!
